Hey everyone, Braeden here! Just thought I’d hop in and write a blog post to let you all know what’s been going on. Though we’re only just a few weeks into the New Year, it’s already proving to be a busy one for Wheel Hoss & I. We have started rehearsing for our first show of the year, which is on January 19. We’re honored to have been invited back to the Jim Paul Miller Memorial Bluegrass Show this year. This will be a fun night with multiple bands on the show. All proceeds from this event goes towards awarding a young musician a scholarship to attend Gerald Jones’ Acoustic Music Camp in Arlington, TX. As I’ve mentioned before, I received the Jim Paul Miller scholarship in 2014. Getting the opportunity to go to Acoustic Music Camp really benefited me as a musician. I’m grateful to Gary Penny and all the organizers of the event for welcoming my group with open arms. This year’s show will be particularly special because a second schloarship will be awarded in memory of Mark Land, a phenomonal mandolin and guitar player who I had the honor of playing with and being mentored by. Mark loved young musicians. He especially loved teaching and helping others further their craft. He was a big part of the Texas Bluegrass commuinty. It thrills me that his legacy will be honored through this new schloarship. I hope that you will make plans to attend this show. For complete details,. visit our Schedule page.
Speaking of schedules, we’re still working on adding 2019 dates to our calendar. If you or anybody you know would be interested in bringing traditional & original Bluegrass music to your next event, be sure and visit our Booking Info page.
We have several other things in the works, some of which I can’t disclose at the moment. I can tell you though that I’m in the process of working on a brand new recording! While it is not a Wheel Hoss project, I’m really excited about this solo venture. I’m in the process of working on an EP that honors the music of the Goins Brothers & the Bailes Brothers. I have really enjoyed both these duos and I’ve felt like they’ve never gotten the credit they fully deserve. Since this is an EP, there are 6 tracks total, three of which are Goins Brothers songs and three of which are Bailes Brothers songs. I hope that my intrepretations of these songs do both of these musical pioneers justice. I’m aiming to have the project out by either February or March. I will be writing a blog post once it is officialy relased detailing the recording process, which I’m sure you’ll find interesting.
That’s all I’ve got to say for now. I hope all of you out there have a fun, fulfilling and prosperous new year!
